Migraine Headaches
The Problem:
We all know someone who has experienced or still does experience migraines, that person could even be you! A migraine is an intense throbbing headache that may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light or noise. These horrible headaches can last from a few hours to multiple days and are very debilitating.
It is estimated that one billion people have at least one migraine headache every year (1) with adult women being 3 times more likely to suffer.
Migraines are commonly caused by triggers and the headache itself is caused when these triggers build up beyond a certain threshold. This can be likened to a glass of water that overflows at a certain point.
For many patients, upper cervical tension and joint restrictions act as migraine triggers. (3,4) So, it’s not surprising that chiropractic care is a proven effective migraine prevention strategy. (5-17)
The Solution:
Chiropractic care has demonstrated similar effectiveness but longer-lasting benefit and fewer side effects than well-known medications for treating migraines such as amitriptyline.
Research shows a significant reduction of migraine intensity in almost half of those patients receiving spinal manipulation, and nearly one in four participants reported greater than 90% fewer attacks.(7)
